In the heart of Arequipa, surrounded by white volcanic stone and towering peaks, another side of Peru reveals itself to you: its cuisine. In a traditional home, you put on an apron, work with spices, peel rocoto chillies and prepare step by step one of the country’s emblematic dishes.

At Ventura, we chose to include this shared culinary moment in our Explore Peru Bolivia Chile itinerary. Why? Because culture is experienced through taste as well, and nothing creates connections more quickly than cooking together.

This is not a formal class. It is a warm, convivial experience – a sensory journey into Andean flavours. You leave with a full stomach, and a full heart too.

The culinary workshop in Arequipa

Peruvian cuisine is now recognised as one of the finest in the world. Yet beyond the celebrated restaurants of Lima, it is first and foremost a living tradition found in homes, markets and neighbourhood kitchens. In Arequipa, famed for its rich and spicy gastronomy, Ventura offers a unique workshop: either in a local home or a small community space, you prepare a typical menu using fresh ingredients bought on the spot.

It is the perfect opportunity to ask questions, share stories and understand why food plays such an important role in Andean culture. This warm, flavourful moment becomes a deeply personal memory for our travellers.
