The Uros are one of Peru’s oldest Indigenous groups, living on the islands of Lake Titicaca long before Inca times. To protect themselves from enemies and to secure access to fish, they developed the skill of building floating islands from reeds. Even today, the reeds are renewed regularly to keep the islands stable and habitable.
The community lives closely together, sharing work and resources while preserving their knowledge of boatbuilding, crafts and fishing. Visitors who spend a night with the Uros gain insight into their traditions, rituals and daily life, experiencing the lake in a way that day trips cannot offer.
The overnight stay directly supports the Uros and helps them preserve their cultural heritage while providing an important source of income.
