That’s why we take our time: two full nights in San Pedro de Atacama. This way, you can not only see the desert, but truly feel it. From the Valle de la Luna to bubbling geysers and colorful lagoons with flamingos—the diversity of this landscape only reveals itself when you give it the necessary time.

The Atacama Desert stretches over more than 600 miles in northern Chile and is considered the driest non-polar desert on Earth. In some regions, no rain falls for decades. Despite these extreme conditions, an astonishing variety of life thrives here: flamingos, vicuñas, and cacti, all perfectly adapted to the harsh climate.

San Pedro de Atacama, a small oasis village at an altitude of 2,400 meters (~7500 feet), is the starting point for exploration. The surrounding area features colorful lagoons, the Valle de la Luna with its bizarre rock formations, and the geysers of El Tatio, which are particularly impressive at sunrise.

The clear, dry air also makes Atacama one of the best places in the world for stargazing—an experience that can only be fully appreciated by spending a night in the desert.
