The Tren del Fin del Mundo is far more than a simple tourist train – it is a piece of living history. Originally built to link the Ushuaia penitentiary with the surrounding forests, it allowed prisoners to transport timber back to the town. The line was abandoned after the prison closed in the 1940s, then restored at the end of the 20th century as a tribute to this unique past.
Today, this small steam train carries you through untouched landscapes: lenga forests, icy rivers, waterfalls and sweeping viewpoints. It also passes sites rich in history, such as the “Valley of Tears” and the “Macarena Waterfall”. Stepping aboard means travelling not only through space, but through time, in the southernmost inhabited city before the great wilderness of the Far South.
A deeply moving experience, blending heritage and nature.
