The accommodations are often located outside city centres to ensure a genuine immersion in nature.
We deliberately skip the heavily visited Manuel Antonio National Park to provide a more pleasant and environmentally conscious experience.
Some hotels are simple, others more upscale. This mix is intentional to give you an authentic insight into the variety of local accommodation.
Occasionally, some planned properties may be unavailable. In such cases, we replace them with hotels of the same category.
Wildlife sightings cannot be perfectly planned, and viewing specific species cannot be guaranteed (even with our guides’ keen eyes).
Travel insurance is not included in our pricing but is strongly recommended.
This trip is generally not suitable for people with reduced mobility. Please contact us for detailed information about the requirements of this trip, taking your specific needs into account.
Yes, on some trips. Where available, we offer options to extend your stay or add pre- and post-tour nights. Let us know your preferences and we’ll help arrange additional services where possible.
No. While we sell tours in multiple countries (i.e. Germany, France, United Kingdom, etc), we do not combine guests from those countries into a single departure. However, if, for instance, a German customer were to purchase from one of our UK sites (i.e. www.africaventura.co.uk as opposed to www.africaventura.de), nothing would stop them from doing so but the tour would be conducted in English.
We intentionally keep our groups small to ensure a more personal and immersive experience. The vast majority of our tours have a maximum limit of 12 and on average our tours have around 9 travellers. However, a very small number of our trips allow up to 16 travellers.
Our tour prices typically include accommodation, most meals, guided activities, entrance fees, and ground transportation. Specific inclusions are listed on each trip page.

Poor Man's Paradise is located on the Amaya homestead along the magnificient Pacific Coast of the Peninsula de Osa, the last frontier of Costa Rica. Due to the lack of roads, this magical corner of the world has maintained its natural beauty.
A rustic setting with miles of uninhabited beaches, scarlet macaws flying overhead, and the captivating beauty of the rainforest, will be the setting for your wilderness adventure. This is the perfect spot for deep sea fishing, birdwatching, scuba diving, snorkeling, and for experiencing the remarkable biodiversity of the Peninsula's tropical rainforest.
The rooms are simple and rustic, but still bright and friendly. Please note that there is no hot water or air conditioning (but there are fans).
What we particularly like about this hotel: the warm hospitality, the authentic atmosphere, the delicious food, and the great location on a secluded beach.

This hotel is located between a 12 km long, unspoilt beach and the Islas Damas mangroves. The hotel is an absolute oasis of calm and an ideal place to recover from the previous days' excursions and reflect on your impressions during a long walk along the beach.
All rooms are furnished in a maritime style and with great attention to detail. You feel more at home than in a hotel. The owners attach great importance to cleanliness and peace and quiet and have therefore introduced some house rules that must be observed: e.g. bedtime from 10 pm and the rooms on the second floor of the main building can only be entered barefoot.
We have also chosen this hotel because we want to set ourselves apart from the mass tourism hotspot of Manuel Antonio and offer you an exclusive experience. In the midst of nature, you will find a place to relax and learn about the different ecosystems and biodiversity of the region.

The Zapotal Community Homestay connects a small village in Costa Rica with travelers. By opening their doors to visitors, the community has been able to thrive. Traditionally dependent on agricultural work, this village of 60 people has been able to improve their local economy by welcoming guests. Along with homestays and a restaurant for travelers, they offer cooking classes and tours in the surrounding cloud forest. The entire community gains from tourism, with over half of the population involved directly in the industry and the benefits distributed equally.
Travelers are also rewarded with an intimate look at village life. They cook with locals, learn about medicinal plants and farming practices, and visit sites like a sugar cane mill. There’s just a lot of fun, too: cultural differences dissolve during karaoke nights!

Experience rural life
handcrafted sugar cane experience
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Transportation: Offroad vehicle (0:30h), By Foot (1:00h)
Today, you immerse yourself in the traditional rural life of a Costa Rican village community. In the morning, you visit Bety and her family's small organic farm. With pride, she guides you through their finca and a beautiful garden filled with herbs and surprises. Feel free to lend a hand and even milk a fresh glass of milk. During a cheese tasting, Bety shares her fascinating story, especially her fight for developing rural tourism through women in Costa Rica.
After lunch, you explore the traditional sugar cane factory. Here, sugar cane juice is slowly transformed over a fire into a thick, caramel-like substance known locally as "tapa dulce".
For those eager to learn more about culinary traditions in the late afternoon, there's an opportunity to visit Doña Bety in her home for a small cooking class (additional cost: $20, payable locally). Alternatively, you can wander the village paths or simply enjoy some leisure time to unwind.
With the vSocial Foundation, your £25 donation and visit have supported local tourism initiatives in Zapotal since 2016.
