Every Sunday, Bogotá transforms into one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world. Since the 1970s, the famous Ciclovía has taken place here – a citywide event during which more than 100 kilometres (62 miles) of roads are closed to cars. Instead, cyclists, skaters, families and fitness enthusiasts take over the urban centre. This long-standing tradition is not only a contribution to sustainability, but also a social celebration in which residents reclaim their city.
